Big accomplishments for Morton East and Morton West students

Morton West High School should be proud of a recent football game that occurred on Friday Oct.1. While the Mustangs defeated Hinsdale south 27 to 6, the varsity football team allowed students from the special education department to feel like they were part of the team.

Adaptive PE teacher, Morton Special Olympics coordinator and coach Maryjo Buongiorno’s took care of the paper work and permission slips. Buongiorno and coach Organ worked together with the staff to make the collaboration happen.

A comment on the Berwyn Talk Forum about the night said it was “truly magical.”

Morton East High School is also making positive headlines. According to an article in the Berwyn Life, The White House has asked Morton East High School to select two students, one of whom will be flown to Washington D.C. Tuesday, Oct 19 to meet President Barack Obama.

The announcement occurred at the District 201 board meeting on Oct. 13.  The U.S. Department of Education contacted Principal Frank Zarate and said the president desires to recognize National Hispanic Heritage Month.

The school chose student president Fernando Silva and has chosen Ivan Chavez as a backup. They are waiting to hear back from The White House on which student they chose.
